Delhi has recorded the coldest day of the season yet again for the second consecutive day. The national capital recorded the maximum temperature of 15.6 degrees Celsius yesterday, which is six degrees below the normal levels.

Parts of Delhi had a further plunge with Palam observatory observing minimum temperatures 9° below the normal levels at 12.6°C. Other pockets also had severely below normal maximums. Thus pockets of Delhi also saw severe cold day conditions.

A Western Disturbance is over Jammu and Kashmir region, which has given rise to minimums but not good enough to provide any relief from the ongoing chilly conditions. This is because the morning saw dense to very dense fog over the entire national capital with the visibility dropping to 50 meters at Palam.

In the coming days, no further drop is expected in the minimum temperatures and they will continue to hover around 6 to 7° celsius.

After this Western disturbance, a slight break is expected in between and another system will be seen on December 29. Thus we don't expect temperature to drop and possibly unlike the last three years when temperature had dropped to 3 degrees or so. This year will not come below 5 degrees. In 2019, minimum was at 2.4 degrees Celsius on 28 December. Last year was at 3.2 degrees on December 20.

Thus, this year has been much better. Clouding can be seen in the evening for the next three to four days. However, rain is not likely in this scenario. Winds is are expected to pick up pace and add to the windchill factor. Days will remain cold and cold day conditions will be seen over the national capital further as well. Last year, there was no cold day in December and generally also, cold days are not very common.
