The capital woke up to another chilly and strong breezy morning where mercury dropped to 4°C, making the coldest day of the season so far and in last 4 years.
The Safdarjung observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 5.2 degrees on Tuesday while the mercury further plunged on Wednesday morning to 4°C that was three degrees below normal.
At Palam too, the minimum temperature settled at 4.7 degrees and at Ayanagar and Ridge it was 5.0 and 5.3 degrees Celsius respectively.
Even with a relatively cold day, the capital city remained fog-free today morning. Palam Observatory witnessed the lowest visibility of 800 meters today morning.
While the sky remained clear with mist and shallow fog in isolated places in the morning, Skymet Weather predicts that mercury will drop further in next coming days, leaving people shiver in the icy cold winds.
The northerly winds are coming from the colder regions in the north and they are the reason for the dip in the temperature in Delhi-NCR. For the next 24 to 48 hours, the temperature would vary from 14 to 16 degree Celsius while minimum will hover between 3-4 °C.
Delhi had last witnessed the lowest minimum temperature of 1.9°C on 6th January, 2013.
