Famous Delhi winters have finally made an appearance over the national capital. And not only this, it is here to stay for long.
Mercury plunged significantly to 4°C on Friday morning, as chilly weather tightened its grip over Delhi. It is also the season’s lowest minimum temperature recorded so far.
No respite is expected during the next few days as night temperatures are likely to sustain, possibly with some marginal variations.
According to Skymet Weather, clear sky conditions on Thursday led to a significant cooling of land resulting in dense fog. This did not allow the night temperatures to rise beyond 4°C, which is three degrees below the normal average temperature of 7.1°C.
Since last couple of days, Delhi had been reeling under the cold day conditions with maximum temperatures settling below 16°C. On January 20, Delhi witnessed season’s lowest day temperature at 14.4°C. However, minimums were settling around normal.
On January 21, clear sky with some sunshine increased the day maximum to 16.4°C but paved way for a substantial decrease in minimum temperatures.
Reportedly, cold weather has claimed at least eight lives during last three days itself, impact the most to the people living out on streets.
Earlier on January 20, Delhi government had asked schools to suspend the primary classes in wake of the wintry chill.
Delhi along with North India had witnessed exceptionally warm temperatures this season till mid-January. Thereafter, contrasting weather conditions are now being witnessed over the region.
