On Sunday morning, Delhi recorded minimum temperature of 2.6°C, lowest this season so far. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, cold wave has tightened its grip over national capital as minimum temperature was recorded five degrees below normal.

2.6°C is quite close to the last year's lowest minimum temperature of 2.4°C, recorded on December 30, 2013.

According to Skymet, dense fog does not let the minimum temperatures fall but since the fog started setting in very late today, the temperature kept dropping. Had the fog engulfed the region by midnight, the temperature would not have soared to this level. Fog started commencing around 4:30 am.

Moreover, moist south-easterlies travelling from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, which are equally cold as north-westerlies worsened the situation.

As per the latest forecast by Skymet, Delhites will continue to reel under biting cold for next couple of days. As the cold wave conditions will persist, city will also witness very dense to dense fog.

On the morning of December 28, visibility at most of the places in Delhi and NCR had dropped to nil, hitting rail and air traffic very hard. Around 28 flights were reported to be delayed, while 140 trains were running behind schedule.
