December has begun but winters are still shying away from making a grand entry into Delhi. Delhi’s maximums that are expected to drop by this time are showing no such trend. In fact, they set a record, as for three days in a row, maximums remained closer to 30°C.
From 28th November onwards, Delhi has been witnessing high maximums leading to unusually warm days. The maximum on Friday was 30.2°C followed by 31°C on 29th, 30°C on the 30th. December too started with a high maximum temperature of 29°C.
The all time high maximum temperature for 29th November has been 28.4°C recorded in 2012. The all time high maximum temperature for 30th November has been 28°C recorded in 1999. All time high maximum temperature of 29.5°C in December has been recorded on 5th December, 2011.
Absence of any strong western disturbance which would have resulted in snow in J&K region and later affected the maximums of Delhi has been the one of the important factors leading to high maximums.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the clear weather conditions left behind after the two consecutive western disturbances moved away from North India, led to high maximum temperatures in the national capital city. Moreover, low atmospheric obscurity also acted conducive for this effect on temperatures.
Other places in Delhi too recorded maximums around 30°C on 1st December. While Gurgaon recorded 33°C of maximum, Ayanagar recorded 29.7°C and Palam recorded 29.6°C as maximum temperature.
However, Skymet believes that there will be a gradual drop in day and night temperatures in next 48 hours.
