The month of January for the national capital Delhi is the rainiest month after February and also the coldest month. The average minimum temperature in the city during this month is 7 degrees Celsius, while the day temperature is 21 degrees.
Whenever there is a weather system there is fluctuation in the temperatures. The minimum sometime can slide below 5 degrees Celsius. During January and February Western Disturbances also become frequent and lower their track affecting the weather of Delhi. Generally, after the passage of the weather system, the temperatures of Delhi changes a great deal.
The first Western Disturbance of the year -supposed to give rain in Delhi from January 1 to 3 - has given the city a miss. But there is another one likely around January 6 and is supposed to last until January 8.
This spell of rain is going to be intense and widespread. Delhi and its adjoining areas like Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad will observe rain during this period. The major weather activity is expected to happen on January 7 in Delhi and its adjoining areas. Chances of hailstorm can not be ruled out either.
During this period Delhi will observe a drop in the day temperature. Cold day conditions with temperature settling 4-5 degrees below normal is a high probability. So gear up to wrap yourself again in those thick woollens.
After the passage of the Western Disturbance (By Jan 8 evening) the night temperature in Delhi will begin to drop. Cold wave conditions may again take over Delhi with minimum settling close to 6 degrees Celsius. Therefore gear up for another round of biting cold in Delhi.
