With winters gripping the country, the National Capital Delhi is also feeling the effect. According to the data available with Skymet Delhi recorded the lowest minimum of the season on Thursday. The main observatory of the city at Safdarjung saw the minimum slide to 7.6 degree Celsius. This is one degree below normal for this time of the year. While the other observatory at Palam recorded the minimum temperature of 8.2 degrees Celsius.
Previously the city had recorded its coldest day of the season on Wednesday at 7.9 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature had settled at 9.1 degrees Celsius. The day temperatures had also plunged to 24 degrees Celsius, which is also one degree below normal.
Looking back into history, the lowest minimum recorded in Delhi during December was 0°C in 1930. Last year, the minimum temperature fell to 2.6 degrees Celsius on December 29.
Days and nights are now going to get colder in Delhi as cold northerly winds from the Himalayas are blowing in the region.
Fog can be witnessed during the early morning hours in the next few days. Earlier, on Saturday, the capital had seen its first spell of “dense” fog for this season as visibility dropped to zero for nearly two hours leading to disruption in flight operations at IGI airport.
