Delhi seems to be setting new records every day. After the spell of rain in the gone-by weekend, Delhi has crossed the all-time rain records for the month of March. The national capital has recorded the wettest March in last 100 years.
Rain in Palam Observatory
The Palam Observatory in Delhi recorded 20.6 mm of rain in a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Sunday. Palam has recorded 126.8 mm of rain so far in March, which is 10 times more than the monthly normal of 11.7 mm. Palam had earlier set an all-time record of 53 mm in the year 2007.
Rain in Safdarjung Observatory
The Safdarjung Observatory recorded 11.2 mm of rain on Sunday, taking the monthly total to 97.3 mm. Even this station surpassed the average rainfall of 13.5 mm by a big margin and set an all-time record. In 1915, Safdarjung had recorded 78.2 mm of rain.
Temperatures in Delhi
March started on a rainy note and even April will witness a similar condition as rain is likely once again from the 2nd of April. March is the transition period with winter just retreating and looking forward to pre-monsoon showers. Maximums in the first two weeks remain around 27-28°C and by end of the month it touches 34°C. However, this month has been unusually different. Temperatures which had earlier went above normal have come down much below normal after this spell of rain.
