Delhi Records Warmest Day Of Season, Clouds And Light Rain Likely Tomorrow

March 12, 2024 1:06 PM |

The national capital registered its first 30 degree of this year, yesterday. It was very much on the expected lines and the base observatory Safdarjung recorded a maximum of 31.4°C, about three notches above the normal. It was also a jump of 3°C from the previous day's maximum of 28.4°C. There had been a steady rise in mercury levels for the last week or so. The minimum temperature also has risen 14.2°C, but still remains a degree below the normal. As per the pentad normal, Delhi temperature rises to 34-35°C at the fag end of the month. The minimum temperature also touches about 16°C around that time.

The record observatory at Safdarjung had earlier recorded the highest of 29.7°C on 18th Feb. In March, the highest, so far, was 29.6°C recorded on the opening day of the month. In the past 24 hours, Pitampura and Ridge area crossed 32°C, and Ridge was warmest at 32.3°C. March is a transition month, from winter to pre-monsoon, fluctuations sometimes are rather large.

Fresh western disturbance will approach the northern mountains, sometimes in the evening. It will affect the weather over the plains also. However, Delhi remains rather far from the reach of this system. The residual effect of this system may cause a few fleeting showers over some areas, for a brief duration. A partly cloudy sky, tomorrow forenoon and afternoon, may lead to a slight drop in day temperature. The day temperature will hover around 30-32°C and the minimum temperature will stay in the low teens (12-14°C) during this week.  After the passage of the western disturbance, dry weather conditions with a fair amount of sunshine are likely between the 14th and 22nd of March.
