Delhi and its adjoining areas of Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad witnessed widespread light rain and thundershower activities yesterday, which pulled down temperatures and made the weather conditions extremely pleasant in the region. According to the rainfall data available with the Skymet, Delhi’s Palam Observatory recorded 1.6 mm of rain in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Wednesday, followed by Ridge 0.8 mm, Safdarjung 0.5 mm and Ayanagar 0.4 mm.
In the wake of widespread weather activities going on since the last couple of days, the temperatures in most parts of Delhi and NCR have dropped significantly. Yesterday, the maximum temperature recorded at Delhi’s Safdarjung Observatory (Base Observatory for records) was 29.5˚C which was 7˚C below normal. The minimum temperature also settled 5˚C below normal at 17.1˚C.
This was the lowest recorded day and night temperature for Delhi in this Pre-Monsoon season so far. In fact, in the last 10 years during the month of April, only once has Delhi recorded night temperature at 15.4˚C. However, the minimum on four occasions has settled below 17˚C. Normally during this month (April) the average minimum in Delhi settles around 22˚C.
Today we expect dry weather conditions in Delhi and its adjoining areas. But due to availability of moisture and rise in temperatures, cloud build up may happen.
Day temperatures are likely to rise in the next three to four days and settle close to 39˚C, which may lead to heat wave like conditions in the National Capital Region.
