Delhi/NCR has recorded the lowest temperatures of this season so far. The base observatory at Safdarjung recorded a minimum temperature of 9.5°C, about 1°C below the normal. The meteorological office at Lodhi Road measured a low of 8.6°C, same as Pusa observatory. The coolest in the region was Ayanagar with a low of 8.1°C. Any further fall of the mercury is unlikely for the next 4-5 days.

The minimum temperature at Delhi still remains the highest, since 2019 when Safdarjung had recorded the lowest of 11.4°C in the month of November. The lowest temperature of Delhi, since 2007 has a record of 6.3°C, measured in Nov 2020.  Any further fall will get arrested because of the approach of a westerly system.

A westerly trough in the mid-tropospheric levels is approaching Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. This will be very closely followed by another similar feature over the same region. Mid and higher reaches of the mountains will have light snowfall. The lower hills like Srinagar, Shopian and Awantipora will witness light rainfall between 30th Nov and 03rd Dec. The plains will remain devoid of any weather activity in terms of rainfall. Yes, the wind pattern will be subjected to minor changes, but still good enough to stop the sinking of mercury levels over the plains, including Delhi.

The national capital has evaded the typical winter chill so far. The minimum has dropped to a single digit for the first time in this season. Overall, the month of November, so far has a mean minimum temperature of 14.6°C, against the long-time monthly average of 13°C. The first half of the month was unusually warm and the last week of the month has recovered the normal. Still, the capital city remaining above the average by 1.6°C is very significant.
