Delhi records lowest minimum of season at 6.2 degrees

Delhi has recorded the lowest minimum temperature for the second consecutive day. The minimum yesterday had settled at 6.4 degrees Celsius and today, the minimum has further dropped to 6.2 degrees Celsius, once again being the lowest of the season.

Temperatures have been dropping below the normal levels for the past few days, the lowest being today. Though the temperatures do drop in the second half of December. Last year, minimums had gone up to 3.2 degrees on december 20 and 2020 saw minimum at 3.3 degrees Celsius, on December 31.

While maximums do dip under 5 degrees also, minimums this time are likely to hang around this, may be about 5 degrees or so. Delhi has been peculiar this season with rains, cold wave, cloudy conditions and fog remaining completely absent.

The maximum temperatures have been above normal due to sunny days. However, they have started to settle close to normal levels now while minimums are dipping below normal. The monthly normal average for Delhi is 8.4 degrees.

Normally, the first half of December is warmer than the second half and the average for the first is around 9.5-10 degrees. This year, it has been colder, all days have seen minimums in single digit except December 14. The average this month so far has been at 8.3 degrees, which is definitely a shade below the monthly mean. No weather activity is likely for the next one week at least and any rains are only likely after Christmas. Moreover, foggy days will also remain far away.
