The Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation over Jammu & Kashmir and neighbouring areas is expected to move in the east-northeast direction in another 24 hours. This system will start affecting weather in North India from the 30th of December or the New Year’s Eve. There are chances of rain in Delhi/NCR from the 30th to 31st evening onwards. Day temperatures will show a marginal fall due to clouding and light scattered rain over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh and north Madhya Pradesh. Saturday morning, Delhi recorded the lowest minimum of this winter at 4.9 degrees. Temperatures will remain low tomorrow as well but minimums are expected show a significant rise after the passage of the present system.

Scattered light rain will bring down maximum temperatures by 3 to 4 degrees, making the days colder than usual. The minimum temperatures could possibly double. With a low diurnal variation, cold day like conditions will prevail in few places.

A trough of this Western Disturbance will affect areas lying above 25 degrees North Latitude and travel up to East India. After a real long dry spell, coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu may receive rain and thundershowers, in next 24 hours.

Fog in Delhi and North India has taken a backseat for the time being but engulfed Patna, Malda and Dibrugarh. Here the general visibility reduced to 50 meters, today morning. Dense fog was observed in pockets over Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Assam, while fog was shallow over pockets of Manipur. Fog in North India will return after the passage of the present Western Disturbance.
