Delhiites are sweltering under extreme heat as maximum touched 40°C, for the first time this season. The Palam Observatory recorded 40.5°C as the maximum yesterday while minimum today morning was 24.8°C. Yes, it’s the time of year in Delhi when one forgets about being fashionable and simple cotton clothes come out of the wardrobe.
According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, temperatures will maintain levels today and there are slight chances of spot rain and thundershowers. Rise in maximum temperatures by 1 to 2°C over northwest India is expected during next 24 hours.
The Western Disturbance as a trough in mid tropospheric level now lies along longitude 70.0°E and north of latitude 25.0°N. The system is likely to move away in the next 24 hours and decrease rain over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. It is likely to bring thunderstorms in Delhi and Haryana by today evening. The system might touch the fringes of Delhi and move away without giving any rain.
With the national capital entering deep into the thick of summer in India, the Delhi Jal Board announced its annual summer action plan on Tuesday. According to the plan, 900 water tankers will be provided to make sure that the residents don’t experience any water shortage during the scorching months ahead. Last year the tankers made 4100 trips per day but this summer they will make 5000.
