Day temperature has been on the rise for the national capital. The maximum temperature remained in 40's for the last five days and has risen from 40.2 degree on 13May to 43.6 degree yesterday. This is the highest temperature of this season and surpassed the earlier high of 42.5 degree, recorded a day earlier. The mercury is expected to soar further and reach 45 degree mark, very soon.

There is no significant weather system to cause any weather activity over plains of North India, including Delhi. More and more heat will accumulate, increasing the temperature further high. It is extremely hot over Rajasthan, parts of Haryana and neighbourhood. Rohtak, Hisar, Pilani, Churu and Narnaul have nearly reached 46 degree.  Even, across the border, the mercury is sweltering with 46-47 degree at Jacobabad, Rohri, Pad Idan and Nawabshah. With favourable winds, the heat is getting advected and reaching Delhi/NCR.

Last year, Delhi recorded the highest maximum of 43.7 degree on 23May. However, in 2022, mercury breached 45 degree mark to settle at 45.6 degree on 16 May. An all time high of 47.2 degree for Delhi was recorded on 29 May 1944. The temperature during the next one week will hover around 44-45 degree. It is likely to breach 45 degree mark today or tomorrow. Strong surface winds will trigger 'loo' conditions and heat wave over Delhi/NCR for the next one week.
