Delhi records highest day temperature of the season

Heat wave in north IndiaA rising tendency in day temperature has been witnessed in Delhi during May. Barring the first two days of the month, the maximums so far have settled above the normal average of 39.5°C. The Safdarjung Observatory on Monday saw the day temperature settle at 43°C, which is 4 degrees above the monthly normal and the highest maximum of the season so far.

Though there are chances of thunderstorm activity on Tuesday, the temperature in the city is going to sustain for at least 3 to 4 days. The thunderstorm is expected to happen during evening hours, so there isn’t any respite likely during the day time.

As reiterated by Skymet, maximums in Delhi have exceeded the 40 degrees Celsius mark on several occasions during May. May 6 to May 10 was the longest spell of hot weather in the city. Twice, on May 6 and May 7, the day temperature settled beyond 42°C, almost amounting to heat wave.
