Delhi recorded season’s lowest minimum temperature of 8.4°C today

Since the past couple of days, Delhi has been under a thick layer of fog. And surprisingly the minimum temperatures were on the higher side due to this widespread fog. This heavy layer of fog acted as a greenhouse cover, which made the minimum temperatures rise so high.

Since yesterday, the sky is clear and dry winds from west and northwest direction has started blowing leading to clearance of fog. The clear sky and dry winds has resulted in drop in minimum temperatures over Delhi and NCR and many other parts of northern plains.

Now we expect that the similar weather conditions will continue for next 2-3 days. Temperatures will go down further but this year till now, Delhiites have not felt the winter chill which is usual during this time of the year. The reason for no chill in Delhi is no active western disturbance has approached the Western Himalayas which would have given moderate to heavy snowfall.

In the absence of good snowfall and rainfall over the northern hills, winters cannot be expected as severe as they use to be. But now we expect a strong western disturbance to approach western Himalayas and adjoining plains on December 10. That time moderate to heavy snowfall is possible over many parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
