Delhi Receives Pre Monsoon Rains For Four Consecutive Days, More Showers Till Mid Week

May 29, 2023 3:31 PM |

Pre monsoon showers lashed Delhi and suburbs late last night and in wee hours. Base observatory Safdarjung recorded 7mm of rain. Similar amounts were observed at few more places like Lodhi Road, Ridge, Delhi University and Pitampura. Moderately heavy showers amounting to 34.5mm were witnessed at Jafarpur.  Day and  night temperatures have dipped well below the normal by 5-6°C across Delhi/ NCR.

Weather activity over Delhi is in association with the active western disturbance moving across the mountains with induced cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan. Though, Delhi falls on the outer peripheral but still within reach of impact area of weather systems. Both the systems are slow moving and will therefore cause extended wet spell for the city and suburbs.

The record observatory has measured 27mm rainfall in the last 4 days, taking the monthly total to 88mm against the normal of 29.4mm.  More showers are likely in the remaining days of the month. Moderate showers are expected today and tomorrow. Intensity and spread will reduce subsequently on 31stMay and 01stJune. Later minimal activity is likely over the weekend. The day temperature will remain in mid 30’s, about 4°C below the normal. Gradual rise in the mercury level is likely from 03rd June onward .
