The abnormally wet March in Delhi and North India will end on a dry note say weathermen from Skymet’s Meteorological Division. Weather records show Delhi receiving 34 mm of rain so far as opposed to the normal rainfall figure of 12 mm for the month of March, which is over 200% excess rain.
“A number of Western Disturbances in the hills and continuous formation of cyclonic circulations in the plains led to unusual amounts of rain in Delhi and North India in March”, said Samar Chaudhury of Skymet Meteorology Division in India.
The last time the capital city received rain was on Saturday, of 2 mm. Since then the weather in Delhi has been dry and pleasant. Early mornings and nights have been cool and breezy. Afternoons too have not been very warm.
While the maximum in Delhi yesterday settled at 31.7⁰C, the minimum today morning recorded 18.4⁰C. Cool and dry northwesterly from the hills with a speed of about 10 to 15 kmph is adding to the comfort of everyone.
Forecast suggest that the weather in Delhi Monday and Tuesday is expected to remain dry and pleasant in view of rain/snow in Jammu and Kashmir. The minimums will sustain between 16⁰C to 17⁰C and a slight nip in the air will be enjoyed by all. However, the maximums will rise gradually to settle around 35⁰C.
Rain/snow is expected to continue in the extreme eastern parts of Jammu and Kashmir with light intensity. In the last 24 hours, places to receive rain and snow in Jammu and Kashmir were: Srinagar – 8 mm, Banihal – 8.2 mm, Gulmarg – 6.4 mm , Kupwara – 13.6 mm.
