Delhi Receives First Winter Rainfall, Cold Snap To Follow

Delhi/NCR received its first winter rains of the season, last night. The spell was very mild and brief, too. The base station at Safdarjung recorded just a trace of rainfall and the airport observatory missed, even that. Lodhi Road, Ayanagar and Noida received the maiden winter showers, light but good enough to make the roads and streets wet and slippery. Weather conditions improved in the late night and early morning. Monday has begun with a fair amount of sunshine and is going to last through the day.

The mountains and plains of North India have simultaneously received the much anticipated and welcome snow and rain. While the residual effect of weather activity lingers partially over the hills, the plains have rebounded quick and fast to resume the normal winter flavour with bright sun and breeze. Conditions will become further better and going to last through the week.

As it normally happens, a dip in the temperature is likely over the next few days. The chilly winds will blow down the slopes sweeping plains, reaching Delhi as well. The morning temperatures are likely to plunge by 2-3 degrees, to reach very close to the notional mark of 5°C, during the week. Since, the rains were not hefty and nor the snow was heavy, dense and thick fog may spare the national capital for some more days. However, nippy and misty mornings with typical crispy winds will remain the highlights of the week. Delhi/NCR will have an outside chance to observe mild cold wave conditions in some pockets.
