The wait of rains over Delhi and NCR does not seem to end as the city and its surrounding areas have not witnessed many rainy occasions. The rains have mainly remained patchy and scanty throughout the season so far and typical Monsoon rains have remained absent until now.

Due to this, Delhi at present is suffering from a deficit state. As on July 17, Delhi is rain deficient by 19%.

As per Skymet Weather, the axis of Monsoon trough has been running south of its normal position that is south of Northwest Plains including Delhi and NCR for the last many days. This is the reason that Delhi is almost dry with some occasional patchy showers. The last time Delhi and NCR recorded some rains was on July 16, but these remained in patches.

In the next 24-48 hours, we expect the western arm of the axis of Monsoon trough to shift towards the north. In the wake of this, rains may finally make an appearance over Delhi and NCR by tomorrow. These rains are likely to increase both in spread and intensity around July 20 and 21.

However, this time also, the typical monsoon rains would remain absent and Delhi may experience short spell of light rains only. These showers would remain localized and patchy in nature. Although the rains would be sufficient to make the weather slightly comfortable as cloudy skies would persist for two to three days. The most probable period of rains would be during the early morning or late evening hours with a break during the afternoon.
