Delhi rains to take a backseat after 24 hours

Delhi and the adjoining regions were relishing good rains from last couple of days. While the fag end of June was rainy, July also bought rainy days with itself. However, the onset of Southwest Monsoon over Delhi and NCR took an opposite turn and instead of pulling in some rains, it bought dry spell with itself. However, light rains are expected to show up in parts of Delhi and NCR in the next 24 hours.

Since yesterday, the weather across Delhi and NCR went on to become very warm and humid due to the absence of rains and prevalence of easterly winds. Due to this, the mercury levels also jumped up to settle a few notches above the maximums observed a day before.

For instance, on Sunday, the daytime high recorded by Palam Observatory was 30.3°C which raised a good 5 notches above to settle at 35.2°C on Monday. Similarly, the Safdarjung Observatory also recorded the maximum temperature at 32°C on Sunday while it shot up to rest at 35.7°C on Monday.

However, as the trough which was over south of Delhi has shifted towards north of the national capital. On account of this, dry westerly winds have taken over the easterly winds thereby reducing the humidity levels. This is the reason that despite the rise in the mercury levels, the feel like temperature is not very high and so is the discomfort level.

As of now, dry weather is anticipated to prevail over Delhi and the adjoining regions like Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad. However, as Monsoon has already covered Delhi and NCR therefore, occasional isolated thunderstorm or light rains cannot be completely ruled out.

But as per Skymet Weather, until the axis of Monsoon trough shifts over Delhi, heavy showers are ruled out to make an appearance over the capital for the country and adjoining regions for at least the next 3-4 days.
