Delhi rains to take a back seat, temperatures to shoot up

In Delhi, the weather had turned extremely sultry and warm during the last week of March. The maximum temperatures had shot up significantly and were settling above normal by 6°C to 7°C. In fact, heatwave like conditions had enveloped the capital.

However, April began on a rainy note for Delhi. Delhi rains made an appearance quite a few times, during the past few days. Along with pre Monsoon rains, thunderstorm and dust storm activities also accompanied.

In fact, lightning strikes were also observed. In view of these showers over the capital and adjoining cities of Noida, Faridabad, and Gurugram, the weather has become pleasant and both the maximum and minimum temperatures are under check.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Delhi witnessed light pre Monsoon showers. Safdarjung observatory of Delhi recorded rain to the tune of 5.4 mm, followed by Palam and Ridge at 6.2 mm and Ayanagar 4.3 mm rains.

These pre Monsoon rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation which was persisting over Southwest Uttar Pradesh.

As per Skymet Weather, the average rain for the month of April for Safdarjung observatory is 13 mm. Until now, Safdarjung observatory has already received 13 mm rains. Now, we expect the weather to become dry as the winds will change direction and northwesterly winds will start blowing over the region.

During the next four to five days, the weather will remain dry and warm. In fact, both the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to shoot up by 3°C to 4°C in the coming days and would settle above normal.

However, another spell of rain is expected over Delhi and adjoining regions around April 17.
