In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Safdarjung observatory recorded 3.4 mm of rain and Palam 1 mm of rain. Moreover, many other locations have received intense showers for a short duration during the early morning hours.
These rains have broken a prolonged dry spell as the last spell over Delhi-NCR was on June 9. This persistent dry weather had paved way for hot weather that was witnessed during the last few days.
As predicted by Skymet Weather, conditions are now becoming favourable for Monsoon 2018 to set in over Delhi-NCR. Although Monsoon 2018 has arrived late in many parts of the country, but Delhi will witness Monsoon on time by June 29, with an error margin of one day.
As the Monsoon nears, we now expect light to moderate pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers to now pick up pace and Delhi is most likely to record rains of varying intensity during the next 3-4 days.
The monthly average rainfall for Delhi during the month of June is 82.1 mm and the city has only witnessed 36.2 mm of rains until June 26. Although rains would now increase but it is unlikely for Delhi to reach up to its normal rainfall.
In wake of the rains, the maximum temperatures have reduced significantly by nine degrees. On June 25, the maximum temperature in Delhi settled at 43.6°C, while it dropped 34.8°C on June 26.
With more rains in offing, the day temperatures will continue to settle in the similar range. However, the humidity levels will increase leading to discomfort.
