Monsoon rains were rather negligible for Delhi over the last 3 days. Yesterday was totally dry in all parts of the capital city, and therefore the day temperatures rose consistently for the last 4 days, reaching their normal of 34.1°C yesterday. The highest in the region of 35.4 °C was recorded at Pitampura. Monsoon showers are expected over Delhi/NCR tomorrow, and the remnant effect may see a very light and sporadic spell of rain the day after, as well. Today, there is only an outside chance of a sprinkle sometime late in the evening or night.

The monsoon trough has shifted slightly north of Delhi. The western end of the trough passes through Amritsar, Ambala, and Bareilly, and thence eastward through the depression over Chhattisgarh. The depression over the border areas of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand will move west-northwestward. The movement of the system will bring the trough south of its normal position between 3000’ and 5000’ level. The oscillation of the trough in the vicinity of Delhi will trigger intermittent rain and showers of light to moderate intensity.

The weather activity will happen in the evening and night hours. The remnant effect of the system may spill over to the early hours of Thursday. The activity will recede as the day progresses. The mercury level is likely to remain around 34°C today, like yesterday. With likely cloud cover and rainfall tomorrow, the temperature will dip by about 2-3°C. Delhi has already crossed its monthly normal rainfall, mere half way through the month. Base station at Safdarjung has amassed 182.3mm rainfall against its September normal of 123.4°C. The capital city may inch closer to the 200mm mark or may even cross it as well.
