Delhi rains remain in hiding; likely to show up by July 21

Delhi has failed to witness good rainy days during the entire month of July. Apart from a few light to moderate spells that occurred in Delhi and NCR during the initial and mid period of the month, otherwise, the weather of the national capital and its adjoining areas has remained mainly dry.

Delhi rains have been playing hide and seek from last many days. Even after a cloudy sky showing up, rains have mainly refrained from making their appearance over the capital of the country and its adjoining regions. Though isolated drizzle was seen, the rains Delhiites have been waiting for with desperation have remained absent.

The reason for the ongoing dry weather over Delhi and adjoining Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad can be attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough which is running along the central parts of the country. On account of this, rains have continued to lash states of Central India but failed to show up over the northwestern plains.

However, now, this Monsoon trough is likely to move in a north direction towards Delhi. Simultaneously, an induced cyclonic circulation is also likely to develop over Central Pakistan and adjoining North Rajasthan. Due to the interaction of these two weather systems, rains are expected to commence over Delhi and NCR from July 21. Though the intensity of the rains will be light and will be patchy in nature. Isolated rain may also occur on the night of July 20 but the intensity is not anticipated to increase before July 21.

Though these rains will not be heavy or widespread, they will be sufficient to give relief from the ongoing sultry weather. The maximum temperature is also expected to drop by 3-4 degrees and the sky will also remain cloudy to partly cloudy.
