In fact, minimums have dropped by 4 degrees Celsius during the last 24 hours both at Safdarjung and Palam observatory. Thus, cold wave like conditions are prevailing over Delhi and the NCR region.
The reason for this drop in temperature can be attributed to icy cold winds from Western Himalayas. Now, we expect further drop in temperatures during the next 48 hours.
Thus, cold wave conditions may reappear over the Delhi and the NCR region. however pollution levels will remain in the moderate category and a massive increase is not expected.
Icy cold winds from the hills of North India are expected to continue blowing over Delhi and NCR region. Therefore, foggy conditions are not expected to be persisting however shallow fog may continue over some parts of Delhi and the NCR. Dense fog is not likely to make an appearance because wind speed will remain in the moderate range.
Another Western Disturbance is approaching the hills of North India around January 30. During that time, winds will change direction and easterly winds will blow due to which temperatures will increase and Cold Wave conditions will abate.
Due to the presence of a system, there are chances of rainfall activity over Delhi and the NCR region around January 30 and 31.
