The national capital has been receiving exceptional rains since the last few days. The Southwest Monsoon is likely to make an onset over Delhi in the next 24 hours. The overnight rainfall has drenched the city with showers so much so that waterlogging has taken place in several areas of the national capital and the NCR region. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Thursday, Safdarjung observatory recorded 16.5 mm rainfall, Ridge, 19.23 mm, Ayanagar 7.6 mm and Palam 4.7 mm.

The pre-Monsoon showers have hit Delhi this June like it hadn't in the past decade. The city has witnessed record-breaking rains of 191 mm in the month of June surpassing the highest rain record of 150.9 mm for the month of June in 2007. It has even surpassed the monthly average rainfall which stands at 82.2 mm.

However, as compared to Mumbai,Delhihas received comparatively very fewer rains and still the situation of traffic jams and water logging have been wreaking havoc over Delhiites even after one fourth the rains recorded by Mumbai. Only when a striking three digit rain hits Mumbai, chaotic traffic and water logging situations arise. For Delhi, the situation is alarming as the drainage systems are in poor conditions.
Due to this heavy traffic jams occurred in Dhula Kuan, Lajpat Nagar, Saket, Ashram, Munrika, Noida Sector 16, Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road among others which led to hogging situations. The conditions are likely to worsen day by day as Monsoon nears.
