Delhi Rains: August begins on rainy note, rains to stay for a week

Delhiites could not have asked for the better start to the week, with much awaited Monsoon rains drenching the entire national capital and adjoining areas on Monday.

According to Skymet Weather, moderate rains splashed most parts of Delhi-NCR throughout the day. In fact, few parts such as Ayanagar recorded heavy rains to the tune of 43.4 mm. This was followed by Palam Observatory with 26.1 mm in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Safdarjung Observatory 21.6 mm and Ridge 22.8 mm.

After a humid start to the day, weather became extremely pleasant by afternoon. Rains had also led to steep drop in the day maximums to 26°C. On Monday, maximum temperature settled at 31°C, which was three degrees below the normal average.

Further, we expect more rains to lash Delhi and adjoining areas of Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad and Ghaziabad on Tuesday. “More spells of rains of light to moderate intensity are likely today also. Sky will remain cloudy throughout the day, paving for pleasant weather conditions,” said Mahesh Palawat, VP-Meteorology, Skymet Weather.

Thereafter, rains will reduce but on and off light rains will continue for the week. Sky will remain cloudy to over cast, leading to humid but comfortable day.

These rains can be attributed to the axis of Monsoon trough which is running North of Delhi. Besides this, a Western Disturbance is marked over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir.  Intensity of rains over Delhi-NCR will once again pick up pace by August 7, wherein city could witness some good showers.
