Delhi rains that have remained absent from showing up in the city from the last two to three days are once again on the verge of coming back. Though in the last 24 hours, patchy rains were observed by the Safdarjung Observatory, the Palam Observatory did not record many rains.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am as on Sunday, the Safdarjung Observatory recorded very light spells of 1.2 mm while the Palam Observatory failed to record any showers. However, the weather in Delhi and adjoining regions such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad has become cloudy at present with the possibility of rains likely to arrive soon.
Some parts of Delhi and NCR, in fact, have already been witnessing rains from the morning hours. These rains are sure to add to the traffic woes that the city is infamous for during rains.

From the last couple of days, the weather of Delhi has remained mainly dry with only light patches of rains and this was due to the axis of Monsoon trough that was running south of Delhi, traveling along the central parts of the country. This trough due to the persistence of the low-pressure area over Rajasthan was not able to shift towards the north.

However, now, as per Skymet Weather, the low-pressure area has weakened and the trough has shifted over northwest Rajasthan and is passing via Hisar and Bareilly. Due to the northwest shifting of this trough, cloud cover has increased over Delhi and NCR and rainy spells occurred at many places.
In the wake of this northward shifting of the trough, scattered rains are likely to continue in many parts of Delhi including Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad for at least the next 24-48 hours. The intensity of rains will reduce gradually after 24 hours but moderate showers will keep occurring.
