Weather of Rajasthan and Haryana remained mainly dry all through this winters. Generally, during the months of November and December, these states witness scattered rains at least for three to four times.

Due to absence of active Western disturbances and also their induced cyclonic circulations, winter rains remained absent over these regions. Lack of snow and rainfall are accountable for mild winters this year.

Though Punjab and northern parts of Haryana received few showers in the past, but most areas remained under the realm of dry weather conditions.

According to Skymet weather, a fresh and strong Western Disturbance is likely to approach Western Himalayas. This will give moderate to heavy snowfall over the hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand from January 3 to 7.

Its induced cyclonic circulation is also expected over Haryana and adjoining areas. With the combined effect of these weather systems, we can expect light to moderate rains at many places over Punjab and Haryana. A few places over North Rajasthan and Northwest Uttar Pradesh may also witness some spells of rain. Delhi may also receive one or two spells of rain around January 6 and 7.

These rains can then be termed as first good winter spells over the northern plains. Along with rain, it will also pave the way for the winter chill to set in with drop in minimum temperatures by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius. In fact, many stations are expected to record five-degree minimums after January 8.
