During the last week or so, ‘moderate’ to ‘severe’ category pollution is prevailing over Delhi and NCR. Some places in Delhi NCR are recording AQI figures close to 700 today. Yesterday, Delhi’s overall AQI was the worst of the season and had been recorded at 480. Today also it remains quite close at 475. Moreover, the overall PM 10 is at 648.
Despite many parts of Delhi NCR saw light rainfall activities yesterday no respite from pollution has come to the region.
Looking down at the AQI figures for different regions of Delhi-
Noida tops the list of the most polluted region with an AQI of 667 today.
The reasons behind this pollution is being attributed to multiple factors, a few of which include- cracker burning on Diwali, stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana, absence of strong winds, construction work as well as fuel burning in local industries and automobiles.
At present, a Western Disturbance as an upper air Cyclonic Circulation is moving across Jammu and Kashmir. This system would be moving away after 24 to 36 hours from northern parts of the country. In the wake of this system, moderate strong surface winds are expected over Delhi NCR and northwest parts of the country. This might help in pushing away the smoke layer towards East. Hence, some improvement in the pollution level is expected after 24 to 36 hours.
