Delhi Pollution to be back again, air quality to deteriorate

November 27, 2017 2:58 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Smog in Delhi had left Delhi breathless for a really long time. In fact, the city was choking and craving for the pollution massacre to end. The air quality remained hazardous and the sky was as hazy as it could be. However, after a few days of chaos, smog in Delhi did take a backseat and the skies started to become clear.

Delhi pollution has been on the back foot for quite some time now. So much so that the city has been breathing comparatively cleaner air for a while now. In fact, the air quality index has been on the lower side and continues to remain poor or very poor in some areas.

The reason for lower pollution levels over the region can be attributed to the dry and cold moderate north-westerly winds which had been blowing over the region. These winds were slightly intense in nature which has been taking the pollutants away from the region.

However, now, as per a fresh Western Disturbance is approaching the Western Himalayas, the wind pattern is expected to change. Now, south-westerly winds have started blowing over the region. These winds are light in nature.

Thus, Delhi Pollution is expected to witness an increase very soon. Moisture levels will also witness an increase resulting in high humidity levels. Pollution levels have already increased over Delhi and the NCR region with the air quality index being above 400 in parts of the national capital yesterday.

Even at present, the air quality is above the 350 mark in many parts of the city. Thus, during the next 2 to 3 days, Delhi and NCR may witness some high pollution days which may result in the city to choke on deteriorated air. However, it is not likely to be as bad as it was during the first week of November.
