There is no denying the fact that Delhi has emerged as a gas chamber due to its rising pollution levels that seem no improvement. After a brief respite, pollution levels spiked up once again yesterday, converting the Sunday into a smoggy Sunday.
In fact, it was yesterday that Delhi pollution attained international attention when at the Feroz Shah Kotla grounds, the players of Sri Lankan cricket team were seen wearing masks during the test match between India and Sri Lanka. The situation was so worsened that the game suffered halt for 17 minutes with the Sri Lankan players complaining of respiratory issues.

Even after announcing the Delhi pollution as a health hazard by the health authorities, there seems no improvement in taking measures to combat the same. Parts of Delhi and NCR area still reeling under the ‘severe; zone with Anand Vihar recording the worst air quality of 787.

As per Skymet Weather, low wind speed and dropping minimums during the weekend resulted in the poor air quality. Due to lowering minimums and low winds speed, mist or haze is expected to form due to which the pollutant holding capacity of the winds will increase leading to further increase in pollution.

According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research, (SAFAR), Delhi pollution is likely to continue to affect Delhiites for another 24 hours which is why Monday and Tuesday are expected to remain worse.
As already predicted by Skymet Weather, the air quality on Delhi and NCR will continue to linger between the ‘very poor’ and ‘severe’ category for at least another 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, Delhi is expected to witness scattered rains on December 5 or 6 which will help in settling down the pollution present in the air. These rains will be followed by another spell of rain which is likely by December 11 or December 12.
Skymet Weather reiterates that the outflow of very severe Cyclone Ockhi that has already wreaked havoc in Kerala and Tamil Nadu is now traveling north-northeastwards. As it has already started its journey towards northwest India, it will weaken gradually and will trigger some scattered rains over the National Capital Region on Tuesday or Wednesday. It is only after these rains that Delhi and NCR may get some relief from the rising air pollution.
After December 7, the wind speed may also increase that will combat the rising pollution levels and will pave way for a cleaner air for the Delhiites to breathe.
