The hiking pollution levels over Delhi NCR always remain a major concern between the government and public.

Let’s just look at the weather condition over the national capital in the past few days, though the region witnessed sharp drop in minimum temperatures in wake of the winter season, the air quality across the area continues to rise so much so that it remains in the ‘very poor’ category . A 'very poor' AQI indicates that people may suffer from respiratory illness on prolonged exposure to such air.
Along with minimum temperatures dropping, very light and calm winds are prevailing over Delhi and its adjoining regions during the night and early morning hours.
What leads to pollution? Low temperatures and relatively calm winds result in the formation of mist and shallow fog. To add up more to this is the combination of dust and smoke particles present in the atmosphere. So in the absence of moderate winds, this mix remains suspended near the earth surface leading to escalation in the pollution levels.

Now, the weathermen expect pollution to increase further for at least the next 2 to 3 days in wake of light winds and low minimum temperatures. Thereafter, weather models indicate light rains to occur by the evening of December 5 that will continue until December 6.
So during that time, the pollution levels may reduce as the rains will help settling down the pollution present in the air. After this, the winds are very likely to pick up pace leading to further dispersal of the pollution.
So Delhiites just two to three days to fight with this fatal air, as rains are only steps away. Till then take care and try not to venture out more, stay indoors and stay safe.
