Delhi Pollution keeps getting worse, AQI at 334 this morning, no relief likely

Since the last few days, Delhi Pollution has been on an increasing trend wherein today, the overall AQI of Delhi NCR is much beyond the 300 mark, settling at 334. Most places in Delhi NCR are observing PM 2.5 levels in poor category, while PM 10 still is in moderate category in some parts. However, PM 10 in Noida is in the severe category.

As reiterated by Skymet, due to light winds and low temperatures, pollution levels have increased to quite an extent. In fact, now, no relief is expected as light winds will continue to blow for another three to four days. Temperatures will continue to be on the lower side.

Whenever temperatures are low, pollutants become heavy and do not lift, thus all the pollutants are mixing with mist and haze in the morning hours and in the absence of strong winds, these pollutants are not dispersing and accumulating in the atmosphere itself.

By afternoon hours, when sun will come up due to which temperatures increase and winds will pick up speed, there may be very marginal relief. However, pollution will become very poor during the evening hours.

A Western Disturbance is expected to approach the Western Himalayas around December 10. Thus, around that time also, winds will become light, and no relief will be seen. Pollution levels will only subside when the Western Disturbance moves away, and wind picks up speed during that time. In a nutshell, no relief is in sight from the ongoing Pollution levels.
