The day next to Deepawali has been a very severe one on account of Air Quality Index. On Thursday early morning, the AQI was in poor category but as the day progressed dense layer smog engulfed Delhi NCR. The AQI has now slipped into “very severe” category, crossing the values beyond 800 at many places.

As per SAFAR, the current overall AQI for the national capital is around 600 which is very severe. Not only the burning of crackers has been responsible for this, but weather has also taken a U-turn.

As per Skymet Weather, moderate winds have now replaced with calm and light winds and they are continuously changing their direction. Due to this, the pollution levels have risen by a whooping figure.

On Thursday morning the humidity levels were high around 82% and they too have contributed in increased levels of pollution. Due to all these factors like light winds, low temperatures, increased humidity levels, the pollution levels witnessed a spike.

What is more worrying is the fact we do not expect any relief as pollutants would continue to linger around the earth surface for the coming 2-3 days.

As per the latest data, AQI at Delhi University has crossed the mark of 900 which is very severe, followed by Noida at 820 and Pitampura at 745.

We strictly advise people to avoid venturing out in open, particularly children and elderly people. Present conditions can be declared as health emergency specially people with respiratory diseases.
