Delhi Pollution increases as stubble burning begins in Punjab, Haryana

October 14, 2018 6:05 PM |

Delhi Pollution has once again begun to make way as one of the most important factors including Stubble burning. While the stubble burning has been banned, several paddy growers in Punjab as well as Haryana continue to defy the stubble burning ban.

Farmers claim that they are being compelled to do so as no financial support is being given by the government for farm waste management.

Both Punjab and Haryana Governments have high hopes on farm mechanization for management of crop residue. However, as per farmers, it is not the best solution and will only take care of some area of paddy.

So far, over 330 incidents of crop residue in Punjab have been witnessed while 701 have been in Haryana. In fact, officials claimed that paddy burning has reduced this year, as per farmers, stubble burning incidents was lesser as paddy harvesting was yet to pick up due as moisture content is high in crop because of heavy rains last month.

If we take a look at the images from NASA’s FIRM (Fire Information for Resource Management System), crop burning has been occurring for the past few days and the images clearly shows a fire all throughout Haryana and some parts of Punjab.
