Delhi Pollution: Battle continues, minute relief in offing

Since last two days, Delhiites have been battling the fight with increased pollution levels. This all happened because of prevalent east south-easterly winds which are humid in nature. In presence of these winds, the prevailing dust in the atmosphere combines with humidity, which leads to increase in pollution level. Thus, during morning and evening hours haze can be witnessed.

Also, in the absence of moderate/strong winds the pollutants remain suspended near the ground and they don’t get carried away.

On Wednesday morning, pollution levels in Delhi-NCR remained in very poor to severe category. The minimums increased by 2 degree-Celsius. And as per experts, as the day has progressed, pollution levels seem to decrease marginally.

Many places in Delhi-NCR have PM 10 levels in moderate to poor category and PM 2.5 is still in poor to very poor zone.

Currently, Chandni Chowk records the maximum pollution level at 412 which is undoubtedly under the severe category. In coming 24 hours, no major change will be witnessed.

As per Skymet, by tomorrow afternoon, north westerlies will once again start blowing because the western disturbance will move away eastwards. These winds are dry in nature and will help in clearing pollution from the atmosphere.

There are chances that pollution levels might see a dip, but it won't be a major change and the levels won't come under the moderate zone. However, very marginal relief can be witnessed around November 30 and December 1.

Till then, elderly and school children are advised to take proper care and take needed precautions.
