November 15, 2017 2:29 PM |

Touted as immense relief, air quality in Delhi-NCR has improved significantly during the last 24 hours. As predicted by Skymet Weather, Air Quality Index (AQI) witnessed a steep drop on Tuesday and settled at 308. With this, air quality which was termed as ‘severe’ has now come down to ‘very poor’.

Reportedly, Tuesday was the cleanest day for the city since October 17, when AQI was around 300. Dilshad Garden was the cleanest area of the national capital on Tuesday as AQI dropped to 200, taking it to the ‘poor’ category.

Further, we expect more respite on Wednesday as AQI is likely to dip further. In fact, weathermen are predicting better quality during the next two days.

Weather has played a vital role in improving the situation, which had been termed as health emergency across Delhi NCR.

“Change in the climatological conditions such as change in wind direction from north-westerlies to south-easterlies, as well as increase in wind speed from 6-7 kmph to 8-10 kmph in last 24 hours is the prime reason behind the improvement,” said Mahesh Palawat, Vice President – Meteorology, Skymet Weather.

Delhi will continue to breathe easy for the next few days as winds would be sustaining their speed to the tune of 10-15 kmph. Although, wind pattern will change to northwesterly again by November 18 but these winds would be much cleaner than before. Apart from weather, stubble burning across the adjoining states of Punjab and Haryana has also reduced significantly, leading to better air quality.
