Delhi on alert as Yamuna breaches its bank

The water levels in the Yamuna River have breached the danger levels after a barrage in Haryana discharged water. The incident has caused the Delhi Government to deploy flood and disaster management teams as well.

The old Yamuna Bridge also known as the Loha pul has been closed to traffic. The water level at the Yamuna River was above the warning levels of 204 metres. Cusecs of water was released from Hathini Kund Bridge in Haryana.

As per officials, if levels go up further they have about 30 boats on standby. Also, if it rains even more in catchment areas, the residents will be shifted to safer places. Arrangement of food and tents will also be done for the people.

AS per reports, Northern Railway suspended traffic on the bridge from Gandhi Nagar to Hanuman Setu. Not only this, the officials of the railways have been ordered to issue an hourly bulletin release on water levels. Around 34 trains have been affected in which about five have been cancelled. Several other trains have diverted their routes.

While water levels are expected to remain at the 204.9 mark or even drop further, several districts of the national capital have been put on alert. The Army has also been well informed. State authorities concerned have also been asked to take actions in respect to the road traffic.
