Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad to witness dust storm and pre-Monsoon rains

The last time when the National Capital Region witnessed rain and thundershowers was on May 3. Since then dry and very warm weather conditions with high day temperatures were prevailing over most parts of Delhi and NCR.

All these weather conditions along with dust raising winds and westerly winds, lead to rise in the pollution levels of Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad. In fact, AQI of these places was being recorded in poor to very poor category.

But now after a prolonged gap, yesterday during the late evening hours, dust storm followed by rain, thundershowers and strong winds occurred over many parts of Delhi-NCR. Due to these weather activities, pollution levels over parts of the region have improved to some extent.

Since the rainfall activity happened only for a short duration, it wasn't capable in washing away pollution from the city completely. Moreover, we expect dust storm activity over parts of Rajasthan during the coming days due to to which pollution level is expected to rise again.

As the cyclonic circulation is persisting over parts of Rajasthan and successive Western Disturbances are affecting the hills of North India, on and off pre-Monsoon rains will occur over Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad during the coming two to three days mostly during the late evening hours.

In the wake of these weather activities, temperatures over the National Capital Region will remain under check and below normal. Heat wave conditions will not return over region anytime soon.
