As had been forecast by Skymet, the National capital Delhi might soon record some rains in the next few hours. Already, thunderclouds have developed over many parts of Haryana and North Rajasthan. These clouds are traveling in easterly direction towards Delhi and NCR. Therefore, rain and thundershower activities are being forecast over Delhi during the next two hours. These rains will be mainly light to moderate in intensity.
The reason behind these rains can be attributed to an active Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir. Under the impact of this system, the hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir as well as Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are also witnessing good rains. The Western Disturbance has also induced a Cyclonic Circulation over Rajasthan. Moreover, humid winds from Arabian Sea are reaching Delhi and NCR due to the impact of Cyclone Maha.
If these rains happen to be widespread and heavy, then the pollutants which are still persisting over Delhi in the lower atmosphere might wash away leading to cleaner air. Moreover, light rains are also likely over Haryana, Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh and Punjab which will certainly help in bringing down pollution over the region to some extent. These on and off rains are expected until today night. Thereafter, the weather will start clearing up.
