Updated on July 24, 2015 11:30 AM (IST): Light rain likely in Delhi
Light, patchy rain during the course of the day with maximum temperature settling around 34°C is the forecast for Delhi today. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the sky will be generally cloudy with rain along with thundershowers at a few places.
The weather is likely to be influenced by Western Disturbance that is currently present over Jammu and Kashmir. After giving rain over hills of North India, the weather system is expected to give moderate rain tomorrow in Delhi. However, rain intensity will reduce thereafter and Sunday will again witness patchy rain.
The light rain is only likely to provide marginal relief from the sultry weather in Delhi.
Updated on July 20, 2015 01:20 PM (IST): Major cool down in Delhi as Monsoon rains pick up
After receiving some patchy showers during last few days, Monsoon rains in Delhi have picked up intensity from Saturday night. Though it was light in nature but continuous downpour has dropped the maximum temperatures significantly.
With this, we can expect major cool down across Delhi-NCR, ushering in huge relief for Delhiites who have been reeling under warm and humid weather. As per latest forecast by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, light to moderate rain will continue over the city for at least next 24 hours.
On Monday, we can expect day temperatures to settle on the lower side and not go beyond 30°C.
According to Skymet, increase in intensity of rain is due to the interaction between a cyclonic circulation over Punjab and low pressure area over West Madhya Pradesh. This has led to dense cloud formation right from Punjab up to Madhya Pradesh across Haryana, Delhi and North Rajasthan.
Updated on July 19, 2015 02:55 PM (IST): Patchy Monsoon showers in Delhi fail to bring relief
Delhi-NCR has been witnessing patchy Monsoon rains during the last three days with varying intensity. However, the recent weather activity has failed to bring in the much needed relief from hot and sultry weather.
In span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Palam Observatory recorded 25.4 mm of rain but Safdarjung received mere 1.7 mm of rain.
On Saturday, maximum temperature settled at 33°C, while minimum was around 26.1°C. On Sunday also, we expect day and night temperatures to settle in mid 30s and mid 20s, respectively. Humidity levels will be as high as 80 to 85 per cent.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, Monsoon showers will continue to be patchy in nature due to the Monsoon trough running south of Delhi. Chances of heavy rainfall are very few and so of the pleasant weather. High moisture levels will keep the discomfort levels high.
However, the active Monsoon trough is expected to move northward towards Delhi by July 22 or 23. In addition to this, a fresh Western Disturbance will also start affecting the hills of North India.
Both the systems combined together will lead to increase in rain both in terms of intensity and spread, resulting in pleasant weather conditions over the national capital.

Updated on July 17, 2015 11:00 AM (IST): Monsoon showers likely to continue in Delhi
Monsoon showers have returned to Delhi-NCR. We could attribute this spell of rain to the Monsoon trough which is shifting southwards, closer to the plains of North India.
Southeasterly winds blowing over the area have led to rise in humidity levels. This spell of rain is expected to be a little prolonged. We could expect varying intensity of rain during next one week in Delhi-NCR. Heavy showers in isolated places cannot be ruled out.
In a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Thursday, Nazafgarh received 21 mm of rain, Akshardham 10 mm, Ghaziabad 13 mm and Safdarjung 0.2 mm.
