June was welcomed by Delhiites on a hot note. So much so that for the first five days of the month, the national capital continued to remain hot and sultry. The maximum temperature at the Palam observatory reached 44.8 degree Celsius on June 3, which is about 4 degrees above the normal levels.

Now, low level south-easterly winds have been blowing over Delhi which are more moist have been increasing the humidity levels over Delhi-NCR. This also indicates that a trough is running in close proximity of the city.

Yesterday, during the late evening hours, Delhi and the NCR region witnessed dust storm and thunderstorm activity. In fact, a few areas also received some rains. Both Palam and Safdarjung observatories have recorded traces of rain.

Due to high temperatures and high humidity levels together lead to the development of convective clouds over the region, which is a true Pre-Monsoon feature. These conditions result in dust storm and thunderstorm activity, which is sometimes accompanied by rain as well.

During the next two days, Delhi may witness similar conditions. The residents of the national capital can expect to observe some more dust storm and thunderstorm today and tomorrow.

However, as these activities usually occur during the late evening hours, the maximum temperatures remain unaffected. In fact, today, the maximum at about 12:30 pm was recorded at 38 degrees, which will increase even further due to the absence of clouding in the day time.
