Delhi NCR may see dust storm and rains today as well, heat wave to return by next week

After playing hide and seek for last 3-4 days, Delhi and NCR finally received pre-Monsoon rain and thundershower activities on Thursday evening.  The rains were preceded with dust storm, wherein winds speeds reached 65 kmph around 6 pm in the evening.

This change in weather led to significant drop in temperatures, paving way for pleasant weather conditions. Mercury which was around 38°C at 5:30 pm dropped to 24°C, a drop of around 14 degrees in a span of one hour.

These pre-monsoon activities were due to the induced Cyclonic Circulation persisting over Central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab and Haryana in the wake of the fresh Western Disturbance which was over Jammu and Kashmir. Now, also the similar situation persists, and we expect one or two spells of rain, thundershower and dust storm over Delhi and adjoining areas of Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad today as well.

By tomorrow, rains would bid adieu to the national capital and the weather will start clearing up. However, due to presence of moisture in atmosphere, isolated light rains cannot be ruled out on Saturday.

By Sunday, weather will clear up completely. Bright sunshine, clear skies and northwesterly winds will once again commence leading to increase in day temperatures.

We do not expect any weather activity during the remaining part of May over Delhi and NCR now. So, we can say that this was the last spell of pre-Monsoon activity over the region.

Therefore, the temperatures are all set to rise. We expect temperatures to reach 43°C or 45°C  by the end of May, marking the return of heat wave.
