Delhi-NCR drenched in rain, heavy showers for next 2 days

After witnessing light and patchy showers, Delhi has finally recorded heavy Monsoon rains on Tuesday. Rain bearing clouds were seen over the city since the morning hours, giving rains of varying intensity over several parts of the city.

At present, Palam Observatory, Safdarjung, Noida and Dwarka are reporting good rains and thundershowers. Weathermen predict, the ongoing spell to continue for at least an hour.

According to Skymet Weather, the Monsoon trough is presently running south of Delhi. In wake of this easterly winds are blowing over Delhi-NCR, increasing the moisture content and leading to patchy rains.

Further, we expect intensity of rains to increase tomorrow onwards. This will be on account of the oscillation of the Monsoon trough that is likely to shift northwards. Moreover, a Western Disturbance is moving across Jammu and Kashmir.

Now, the interaction between the two systems will increase the rains both in terms of spread and intensity over Delhi NCR and other northern plains.

During the next 24 hours, we can expect fairly widespread rain with few intense showers. Skymet Weather predicts that these on and off scattered showers are likely till July 29.

These rains will also bring down the temperatures, giving much-needed relief from the sultry weather conditions.

Monsoon in Delhi has performed extremely well during the month of July. It has already surpassed its monthly average rainfall of 187 mm. So far, the city has recorded 234 mm of rain.
