Weather conditions remained mild for both the national and the commercial capital of the country. during last few days. Both the minimum as well as the maximum temperatures remained either above the normal levels or close to that.
However, the new year seemed to have reminded the people of North India that winter still very much exists. In fact, the region witnessed its first spell of winter rains. Not only this, due to fresh snowfall in the hills of North India, temperatures have witnessed a steep drop.
So much so that the minimum temperature in many areas of North India are currently below the three-degree mark with cold wave persisting over these areas. In fact, the national capital has also witnessed a drop in minimum temperatures.
Today, the Safdarjung observatory in Delhi recorded its minimum at 5.2 degree Celsius which happens to be at least two degrees below the normal levels.
The maximum city has also not been left far behind and the minimum temperature has also dropped in the city. Today morning, Mumbai recorded its minimum at 13.4 degrees which is four degrees below the normal levels.
These weather conditions can be attributed to the arrival of northeasterly winds from Central India which is already witnessing cold weather. Thus, cold winds have resulted in the drop of temperatures in Mumbai and adjoining areas.
While Mumbai will witness similar weather conditions during the next 24 to 48 hours, a further drop in minimum temperatures is likely in the next 24 hours resulting in cold wave like conditions in Delhi. Thus, both the cities will continue to shiver for at least another day or two.
