Pre-Monsoon rains have been active in different parts of India since last few weeks. While several weather systems have contributed in giving these rains, Cyclone Roanu has also been instrumental in bringing adequate rain over parched areas of Chennai, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and dropping temperatures significantly over hot pockets of Delhi-NCR, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Skymet Weather has predicted Monsoon 2016 to be above normal and as most of Indian residents await the onset of Southwest Monsoon, adequate Pre-Monsoon rain is keeping them happy.
As the onset of Monsoon nears Kerala, pre-monsoon rain is once again expected to get active over major metro cities of India including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. Here is the outlook for pre-Monsoon rain in these areas for next few days.
Rain in Chennai
Chennai Rains made a rare appearance in May owing to the Cyclone Roanu that gave unprecedented heavy Chennai Rains on May 17. Otherwise pre-Monsoon rain in Chennai were far and few. Chennai has remained hot and humid since then as temperature have been settling close to 40°C leading to high discomfort for the residents. However, light rain along with thundershowers is expected in Chennai during evening hours on May 29, which is likely to spill over to May 30. Marginal drop in temperature owing to weather activity is likely during this period.
Rain in Mumbai
Mumbaikars have been eagerly waiting for the pre-Monsoon rain since the beginning of May, however, hopes have been shattered miserably. The month so far has remained dry in the city with temperatures remaining near normal. Though pre-Monsoon showers are likely to commence early next week, giving Mumbai residents a sneak peek of Monsoon. The moist south-westerly winds from the feeble weather system present in the Arabian Sea is expected to give rain in Mumbai between 29-30 May.
Rain in Delhi
Delhi had been witnessing a mix of weather activities in past few weeks of May where once it witnessed record-breaking maximum temperature and hottest day of the season, while after that Delhi rejoiced with moderate pre-Monsoon rains that provide most desired relief from the sweltering heat. An approaching Western Disturbance along with a trough that is extending from Punjab upto Bihar is most likely to give light rain/thundershower/thunderstorm in Delhi between Sunday and Monday.
Rain in Kolkata
The presence of a trough around West Bengal is expected to bring thundershowers in Kolkata after 24-48 hours. Out of the four major metro cities, Kolkata has been the one metro that has received fairly good amount of pre-Monsoon rain in May. The rain has smashed past records with aplomb owing to the presence of frequent cyclonic circulations and Cyclone Roanu. The City of Joy can look forward to another spell of pre-Monsoon rain before the month of May comes to an end.
Ahead of Monsoon, these pre-Monsoon activities will be common in these major metro cities and other nearby places.
