Delhi mercury soaring again, hottest first-week of March last 5 years, showers likely

Base observatory of Delhi, Safdarjung, recorded a day temperature of 33.9°C yesterday, 7°C above the normal value. The weather station of Ridge measured 34.1°C and Meteorological Office at Lodhi Road was a shade lower at 33.6°C. Safdarjung temperature is the highest in the 1st week of March of the last 5 years. The day temperature in Delhi is rising for the last 3 days and will continue for the next 2-3 days to possibly reach 35°C.

Mercury level in Delhi will rise further over the weekend to remain 7-8°C above the average and overtake the record of 2016. The minimum temperature in Delhi is also likely to rise and register in the high teens in the next 3 days. The month of March has the highest jump in the day temperature in Delhi as the mercury starts with a normal of 27°C in the 1st week and climbs to 34 at the fag end. However, March 2021 will have the distinction of observing the temperature of trailing days in the 1st week itself and go on record to be one of the hottest first weeks for Delhi.

There are chances for Delhi to have rain and thunderstorm in some areas on 07th March. Only the tail end of the week is likely to be soaked as the wet spell will commence quite late in the evening and with more probability during the night for Delhi. While the weather conditions will improve on 8th March for Delhi, but the break may not be long enough as another system will approach between 10th and 12th March.
